Tanaka Makoni Unleashes ‘Lust’

Tanaka Makoni is flying the flag for British female hip hop here with 'Lust'. Taking a no hostage approach, Tanaka powers her way through the track perfectly with heaps of likability, making the final mix.

The intro is massively piercing. I genuinely kept coming back to it in my mind time after time. It has a contagious quality which somehow lodges itself deep. As it progresses, Tanaka unleashes a poignant vocal with her plucking away at the heartstrings. It is incredibly heartfelt with the singer singing about a topic which is close to her heart.

Talented in its approach, the structure is fresh and exciting with it often changing up within the sections. I relish this because it keeps the track moving forward without it falling into the trap of becoming repetitive. Also, the chorus cements itself profoundly with the hook echoing around in an atmospheric sound.

Lyrically, Tanaka writes with conviction, and her words stand out with their collective effect. So much so, I imagine many fans will resonate well with her witty lyrics and strong articulation. In her verses, she speaks more with the spoken word, and she sings about love in a completely different light. She then brings out her angelic charm in the chorus with her singing beautifully. Her technique is awe-inspiring, and she is giving the big hitters a good run for their money with her underground but yet modern and polished sound.

Overall, it is a track which deserves the recognition it is getting. It has a contemporary feel, but it reminds me of hip hop from the 90s and early 20s too, which gives it an added flavour and provides nostalgia too for good measure. You can take a listen to 'Lust' by Tanaka Makoni below.
